Only when the key is in the ignition the open door light doesn't turn off even though I know all the doors are shut. This then leaves the interior light on while driving if left on 'door' (which I have obviously turned to 'off' now).

I know it's not a serious issue but just wondering if anybody can help me out with this. I'm guessing it's an earth problem or something. I'm hopeless with 12v but am very keen to learn.

Cheers

So if that happens, and you switch the ignition to OFF, the light goes out?

Jiggle all your door switches and see if that identifies which door it is . Otherwise remove each door switch one by one until you find the offender. There is also a switch from memory in the latch of the tailgate, you can take the trim off and unplug it to check if its the fault

It could be that the dome light Door terminal is touching the body work, loosen each light to check. Door switches earth the cold end of the circuit, it could be a chaffed wire earthing out. The dash door warning light has it's positive connection via the ignition switch. As Spud said there are switches for the rear barn doors or tail gate. The wiring is probably in the harness, so that wiring could also be chaffed.

The cabin lights should operate regardless if the ignition is on or off or the key is in the ignition. The warning light should also operate regardless of the ignition being off or on. On some models an ignition key light is fitted, operating from a relay, this also connects to the door ajar warning light. I wonder if a previous owner has done a modification around the wiring of this relay (or the socket where it would be), maybe earthed the wire that is normally switched to earth. Don't know where the relay would be fitted, maybe drivers side panel under the dash, but it might be worth checking out.
