Looking for some guidance please 'experts'. On my last trip I drove to my parents and parked in the drive, speedo working fine. Took off the next morning and no speedo but I have tacho. It's got me beat. I've checked the driver that plugs into the gear box and it seems ok. It's not loose and appears ok. As I understand this actually drives the tacho and the speedo operates electronically from here.

Where do I start to check for issues???

Not sure about a Diesel, but the transmitter on the back of the gearbox produces electrical pulses for the speedo. The Tacho is driven from an engine sensor, otherwise the tacho would alter drastically as you put your foot on the clutch or changed gears. If you download the electrical section of the manuals from this site there will be a circuit and a test procedure. Possibly connect a battery across two of the pins on the connector and a multimeter or test lamp across earth pin and the unused pin, turn the sender and the light/meter will indicate on - off as the shaft is turned. Actually, taking the sender out, could indicate a worn or stripped nylon cog wheel on the shaft. If all this checks out, then it's time to start looking at the wiring from the sender to the instrument cluster or the speedo. Does the trip meter / odometer work? if so the sender and cabling is ok and it's probable there is a problem in the speedometer which moves the speed indicator pointer.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'll pull the speedo sensor out and check it. For $40 I may as well consider replacing as well. If not, let the games begin....
