Hi guys

When i turn to the right usually close to full lock but not all the time i here a bang or like a metal knock! When im stationary and in motion. Not full sure what it is.

Could it be worn out steering bump or could it be something in the CV joint??

Cheers

Check your chassis where the steering box bolts on could be cracked.

As it occurs when stationary, I would consider not CV joints, they usually "Rumble" as the balls pass the worn sections of the splines at the end of full lock. I wonder about disconnecting the steering damper to see if that cures the problem (easier to disconnect the LHS as the tapered shaft on the RHS can be a bitch). Maybe jack up the front end and have some one turn the steering from lock to lock (engine running) while you get underneath to look, or listen, for something out of the ordinary.

Slip under the front with the appropriate ring spanner, and check these 4 nuts. (both sides)
The L.H.S. especially is notorious for coming loose, with sometimes dire consequences.

2 out of 4 of my LHS nuts always come loose. Is there a more permanent fix for this?

Change them for the upgraded ones, and make up tin plate that you can put under the nuts, and bend the corners and or sides, down to lock the nuts. Mine were done about two years ago, never come loose since.

Well its not coming from the dampner but it does need to be replaced

It feels like its coming from behind the steering box but i just had that replaced about a month ago. Is it a known problem with 80 series steering box?

Any ideas or maybe just time to start unbolting bit by bit and take the box off?

It is a known problem for 80s cracking around where the steering box fits to the chassis. Mine had already been welded before I bought it.
