Gordy has kindly made available the Cross Country Vehicle Clubs regulations regarding recovery hooks. This is a very good guide for anyone wondering if they have recovery hooks or tie down hooks on their truck and if you are intending to install recovery hooks this is excellent as it details bolt size, bolt material, and bolt torque. It also talks about the thickness of the metal where you attach the recovery hook, chassis/bull bar.

It is of course aimed at CCVC members but much of the information is invaluable to all.

Tow Hook Rules

Thanks Gordy and CCVC

Sorry to drag up an old post but I am looking for recovery hooks as well. Went to local ARB dealer and they said to use the std ones on the car??? I thought they were just tie down points but he said no they were fine for a recovery point  , goes against everything I have read it the past.

I have seen ones for sale at OL and these on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TOYOTA-80-105-SE ... 3cb49b6a1e but now just a bit curious about weather they should have a load rating on them?

I too would be interested in reading this standard. Would like to reduce the possibility of flying recovery gear and whipping wire rope hurting my family and friends!

If the file size is not too large, could it be added to the Offroad80s DropBox folder?

If it was also posted as attachment as suggested by shanegtr then all may benefit.

I hope this file is not lost forever - for Safety & Education's sake!

Some cruisers came out with proper recovery hooks fitted as standard. If you have those then your fine but if you have the tie down points that look like round bar bent into a loop then you could be in trouble.

Since this file is no longer available, should the thread not be removed from the F.A.P. list?
