Hey Fellas

Just put 2inch Lift in my 1995 80series last night and now as of 60km i am getting a weird noise from the front off my truck, any ideas of what it could be would be much appreciated.

Cheers Gary

If your car is full time 4wd it will be most likely your front drive shaft. You have changed the angle of which the uni's operate, therefore creating the noise. You can either put up with it, or fit a part time kit, apart from that there aren't many other options.

Cheers

For a 2" lift really shouldn't need to do this, but then again every cars unique. Maybe check the unis are greased though

for a 2" lift you shouldnt have any issues with the front driveshaft. I would say a rebuild of the unis will fix your problem

didnt know you had to fit castor bushes for up to a 2 inch lift??? If you do then how many degrees do they have to be?
1, 2, or 3 degrees?

As I understand, some need 2deg and some need none. There are plenty of 80's with a 2" lift and no castor correction needed...

cheers, Scott

My understanding is that the car goes up therefore the diffs angles twist up. So the castor bushes turn them back down. Ask any specialist and they will tell you which ones. I think its 2 degree for 2inch but dont quote me on it.
I lifted mine 2inches and drove it without a problem but put the bushes in anyway cause its what your suppose to do.

It all depends on what your caster setting is now. You lose about 1 degree of caster with each inch lift. If your caster is now negative then it may tram-track all over the place. If not, and the steering is ok then I guess there is no real need. The caster correction will actually cause a greater angular difference in the operation of the unis.

I have just installed a 50mm OME suspension lift.
The vehicle came up 70mm in the front and 100mm in the rear.
I am assuming that the old suspension was sagging to get this much lift.

Measuring from bottom of rim to top of wheel arch

Before lift Front 725mm Rear 720mm
After lift Front 795mm Rear 820mm

I just put a 2" iroman lift into mine and did nothing hoping to wear the BFG A/T out so to the con the missus "look honey the tyres are worn out and I need new ones" thinking I could get a set of M/T.
Got another 35,000 odd K's out of them with out even rotating them, totally flat just a little wear on the inside from the toe in.
Put the M/T on with a wheel alignment and it was spot on, no caster bushes required.

Your noise, I would be looking at your CV joints, not an expensive excise to change out even down to the mech's shop.
